One of the many choices you will have in creating your wedding invitations is what kind of paper to use.  The look and feel of a wedding invitation can vary widely depending on what kind of paper stock you use.  More than ever before, there are many paper choices for the bride and groom to consider that are beautiful and won’t break the bank.

Cotton and Linen Wedding Invitations:  Invitations made from cotton or linen last for a long time, however, these invitations are usually the most expensive.  You’ll notice that these papers feel different than most other papers.  They have a weighty feel and distinct texture in the hand.  While 100% cotton or linen papers are a little pricey, there are many blends made that still look and feel as good, but cost much less.

* Vellum Wedding Invitations:  If you have seen translucent looking papers on wedding invitations, these are usually made from vellum paper.  Many times, it is used as a second covering to a heavy card stock so the text on the invitation ‘peeks through.’  For a soft, frosted, look, heavier vellums are printed on directly.  Be sure to look for bargains, as vellum papers come in a huge assortment of prices.

*  Heavy Card Stock Wedding Invitations:  Most wedding couples choose heavy card stock for their wedding invitations.  Found in many colors and textures, it has a good feel in the hand and is less expensive than cotton and linen papers.  Many times, heavy card stock is imprinted with borders and foils.  And, because this paper is rather stiff, it will look wonderful in a picture frame for many years.

* Recycled Paper Wedding Invitations:  With the green movement, many brides are choosing to make their invitations out of recycled paper.  Unlike the recycled papers of the past, new technology has enabled recycled paper to look virtually indistinguishable from new papers.  This paper comes in many colors, textures and weights, so there are many choices for couples to choose from.  Many people fear that recycled papers will not hold up as well as regular paper, but as of late, this is no longer an issue.  The price of recycled paper is also all over the map, so be sure to shop around.
